Game Stories

Stories play an important part in games and sometimes that isn't addressed because the story is mainly dialog or it doesn't matter and stories need to matter (unless its a multiplayer then maybe not). Dialog is fun and all but it can't all be just talk. There needs to be some sense and action. The main point in a story to be interesting and a story is conflict. Without it, where is the thrill and rush?. Conflict is how classical stories work because its simple and it works.

Here are some of the best stories in games you should check out:https://www.gamesradar.com/the-best-videogame-stories-ever/

You have a hero, there is an incident, the hero has to try act normal but fails most of the time, therefore he takes a risk. When he takes that risk he learns something new and vital and now he has to get the object of desire (or complete his hero story, whatever it may be). To make a good story you also need a good character. They can't just be bland and titled "hero". He needs some spice. Anyway how this works in games is mainly an external conflict, something outside of the hero's life. This can be divided into 3 acts (also learnt last year in storytelling and narrative module).:

Act 1: Introduction to character and story + incident

Act 2: Dealing with incident

Act 3: Incident over UNLESS you add another and the cycle begins again.

Then the Ending.

For example: Dragon Age Inquisition

The story opens to our hero being suspected of murder of a religious figure. He gets the "Anchor" which, in simple terms, a magic hand. There is a giant hole in the sky too. Demons everywhere. His jailer (soon to be ally) takes the hero to one of the holes that lets demons in and makes him close it with his magic hand. We are also introduced to our other allies/party members.

Act 2 is closing the giant hole in the sky only to find out that there is a mastermind behind it. The antagonist seeks to become a god and destroy the world (obviously). Most of the game consists of doing missions to gather members and support to stop him. Powering up and learning more. Our hero also regains his memories of how he got the magic hand.

Act 3: Defeat the antagonist. Celebrate. SPOILERS AHEAD! Our antagonist wasn't the real antagonist. A new one is revealed in a DLC of the game. Surprise: its one of our party members from the start. The audacity. this loops the cycle however the next game isn't out so....

Here's a better version of my amazing story description: Discover the Story of DAI

Also a while back I watched this video which was great because even though I'm on my second playthrough, there's thing I probably wouldn't have realized: 107 facts about DAI
