Overview

A 3rd person adventure game developed in unity with a Halloween theme and art. It’s like the art style of super mario galaxy meets toy story 3 meets dragon age inquisition ( I recently started it therefore it will be referenced a lot). The goal is to get pumpkins and collect candy corns as you adventure through the village and talking to villagers.

Backstory

Set in a time of a medieval village surround by the haunted woods, the villagers are inspired by Halloween aspects and each character has a spooky name. The player has lived in this village their entire life and knows everyone.

Characters/NPC’s

Mr. Tom – the main NPC the player is trying to find to get the pumpkins from.

Mr. Scare -

Mr. Patch – The neighbor to the player, who he needs to get apples from Mr. Patch.

Librarian – works at the library where the player will go searching for mr tom after failing to find him at the shop

Shop Keeper – Works at the shop that the player was told by Mr. Patch that Mr. Tom will be there.

Random Dude – A random NPC you will pass by and they will tell you they saw mr tom go in a certain direction.

Player Actions

The player will be able to do the following things:

Movement – obvious choice. The player will be able to walk around in all directions and turn 360 if they wish. I won’t include running just yet as there is no need for it.

Jumping – The player will be able to jump around, and this will be helpful when jumping on objects to try and get the candy corn collectibles.

The player will be able to talk to NPC’s as it the point of the game.

Goal and Victory conditions

Find Mr.Tom and collect pumpkins from him. Find candy corn to give to mr tom in exchange for pumpkins for mr patch.

Art Style

The type of graphics you see in super mario galaxy and toy story: Childlike yet fun. Very animated rather than photorealistic. It should be fun and have a spooky atmosphere and aesthetic to it. Green, orange and dark colours for the sky potentially. It should be fun and have.

 The environment like buildings will be medieval based with farms and stone/wood houses. There will be a farm included somewhere, a library and a shop.

A drawing of the layout of the town should be made, to know the placement of everything and to make it look natural and blend in.

Audio

Spooky ambient is the main idea, especially near the haunted woods and farm. Lo-fi gaming music would work well for this.

Steam (PC) , Console

Unique Aspects

Fun and simple yet interesting graphics. The theme is Halloween which you don’t see as often unless it’s a paid dlc. Easy to play, doesn’t require much action when you want to just sit and vibe and have fun.

    I love your Game Design Document, the ideas are really well developed and I think that this could be a really great game.
    I love the idea of mixing Toy Story and Mario visuals, they're like two completely different worlds and mixing those visuals is not something I would've ever thought of.
    It's reminding me a bit of Animal Crossing, but spooky!
    I think that this game is really well thought out and well developed and the idea is amazing,
    I can't wait to see the game when it's finished and be able to play it :)
