Games MDA

MDA or Mechanics Dynamic Aesthetics are tools that are used when creating a game. It breaks it down into 3 sections: 1.Rules 2.System 3."Fun and their design counterparts: 1. Mechanics 2.Dynamics 3.Aesthetics.

Mechanics is the components of a game, so where the player can walk and run in simple terms. It's the very basics of the game. This also includes the games content like levels and assets. Detroit Become Human is a story based game but i you look at it's basic core, it is made of of levels or chapters that progress the story and basic movement as well as timed actions. The player has to make choices that end up determining future actions and choices as well as the ending.

Aesthetics are how the player feels about and interacts with the game. When describing aesthetics, it includes things such as sensation, fantasy, narrative, discovery and so forth. Those are some examples. These give the game more life and interest to it than viewing it as simply a game with rules alone. Detroit Become Human is a narrative, expression, sensation, drama and challenge.

Dynamics is how the aesthetics and mechanics work when brought together. In DBH, the player has to make a choice whether to start a war or protest peacefully and that choice can be affected by how the player feels towards how the people treat androids. The player will either side with the androids against people or try to make peace with them by showing that they are alive. Usually first time playthroughs have more emotional investment into it than replaying it afterwards.
